One of the first questions I get after a family books a session with me is, “Where should we take our photos?”
Luckily, Sacramento has so many beautiful locations to choose from! Whether you’re dreaming of a soft, nature-filled backdrop, photos by the water, or something a little more modern and urban, there’s a location that can fit the feel you’re going for.
As a Sacramento family photographer, these are three of my favorite places to photograph families—and each one offers something completely different.
William Land Park
William Land Park is one of my go-to locations for family photos in Sacramento because there is so much variety in one place.
We can start near the lake for a soft, natural backdrop and then wander through areas filled with greenery and seasonal flowers. There are also beautiful walls and architectural details that give photos a completely different look without having to travel to another location.
One of my favorite little areas is the rock garden. Depending on the season, there can be gorgeous flowers and greenery that add so much color and texture to a gallery.
I love Land Park for:
Families who want a classic, romantic and natural feel with lots of variety in their final galler
Folsom Lake + Beeks Bight
If you love golden light, open space and a slightly more adventurous feel, Folsom Lake is hard to beat.
Beeks Bight is one of my favorite areas to photograph because it changes so much throughout the year. When the purple flowers are in bloom, they create the dreamiest backdrop for family photos.
We can also head toward the water and beach for a completely different look. I love ending sessions near the shoreline as the sun gets lower—the combination of the water, warm light and open landscape photographs beautifully.
And because this location feels a little less manicured, it’s perfect for families who want their photos to feel relaxed and playful.
I love Folsom Lake for:
Golden-hour sessions, families who love nature, little ones who want room to explore, and anyone dreaming of photos near the water.
Downtown Sacramento
For families wanting something a little different, I absolutely love photographing in Downtown Sacramento.
Downtown gives us so many options within one session. We can use the bridge, interesting buildings and architecture, colorful murals, rooftops and other urban backdrops to create a gallery with a more modern feel.
There’s also a beautiful rose garden that gives us the option to mix some softness and greenery into the session. I love being able to photograph against buildings and city textures and then transition into flowers and greenery.
Downtown is especially fun for families who want their photos to feel stylish, colorful and a little less traditional.
I love Downtown Sacramento for:
Families who want an urban or editorial feel, interesting architecture, pops of color and plenty of variety.
So, Which Sacramento Photo Location Should You Choose?
There really isn’t one “best” location—it comes down to what feels most like your family.
If you love flowers, greenery and a timeless Sacramento feel, I’d choose Land Park. If you’re drawn to water, open fields, purple blooms and beautiful golden light, Folsom Lake might be perfect. And if you want something modern, colorful and unique, I’d go with Downtown Sacramento.
When you book a family photography session with me, I’ll help you choose a location that works with the season, your family, your outfits and the overall look you want for your photos.
The location is part of the story—but my favorite images are always the ones that capture your family simply being together.
